Across the main road - Barnsley Road (A6086) - were the school playing fields, adjoining Longley Park. The Pavilion highlighted was in fact a pair of wooden huts where school sports equipment and linesman's tools, were kept. A shower room was within one of the huts, together with changing rooms which always became muddy after a game of football, especially during wet weather.
